Love Defined

Prior chapter

How empty a life can be when God is only an abstract and the word “love” is known as a “physical attraction!” The word “love” within the Scriptures of the prior chapter refers to an Agape or selfless love.

This authentic love endures over time:

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Knowledge of such love is one thing; yet what good is it if we are not empowered to enact it? Consider keeping 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 available and, once a week, include these verses in a prayer while asking God to teach them to our heart.

In time, we may instantly recognize when we are not living up to them. Whether it be a year or a quarter century, this prayer will bring us to a greater maturity toward “learning the things” that God wants to us to know.
